Rebuilding after the August 10 earthquake
According to Colombia’s disaster management agency (UNGRD), the magnitude 7.4 earthquake of August 10, 2026 destroyed 11,757 homes and damaged 48,755 in Risaralda alone, with further damage in Caldas and Quindío. Repairs, retrofits and reconstruction will require steady materials purchases for months, often before insurance, subsidy or owner financing arrives.
- Extended permits. Decree 1448 of 2026 extended valid building permits by 12 months in the 16 affected departments and set special rules for structural retrofit and reconstruction permits.
- Prior studies. In medium or high geotechnical hazard zones the decree requires detailed studies before building. Have them ready before committing to large purchases.
- Pay on terms. With the credit line you can buy steel, concrete and masonry for retrofit work and pay on 30, 60 or 90-day terms as the project receives its funds.
The construction market in the Coffee Region
Before the earthquake, the Coffee Region already had some of the fastest growth in building permits in the country. Those licensed projects, together with reconstruction, keep demand for materials high in the region. The Camacol and DANE figures on this page were measured before August 10.
What to consider when buying materials in the Coffee Region
- High seismic hazard zone. Pereira, Manizales, Armenia and Calarcá are in the high zone under the NSR-10 building code. Require reinforcing steel with a quality certificate, concrete with certified strength and supplier traceability on every delivery.
- High demand for inputs. With reconstruction under way, secure availability and delivery times when you issue the purchase order.
- Aerocafé. Works on the airport in Palestina (Caldas) started in April 2026, with a 46-month first stage that adds demand for materials in the region.
Why buy materials on credit
- You keep the project’s cash for payroll, labor and progress.
- One line for several suppliers. Buy steel, concrete, masonry or finishes with the same credit line.
- The supplier gets paid on delivery. That makes it easier to secure availability and delivery times.
- Decision within 48 hours of receiving your complete documents.
